This course is aimed at all staff nominated as an Authorised Person (Electrical) with respect to HV (High Voltage) distribution equipment in the Healthcare sector

Aim

The course will provide learners with knowledge and competence to safely work on High Voltage electrical systems provide an understanding of the dangers which exist with these systems.

Learners will gain the required knowledge to issue safety documentation in compliance with current HSE legislation and to a HTM 06-03 HV safety rules and procedures

Objectives

By the end of the course you will be able to:

• Recognise Statutory safety regulations relating to HV safe working practices
• Follow procedures defined by HTM 06-03 HV safety rules and procedures
• Prepare safety documentation including Permit to Work and a Sanction to Test
• Perform cable location and identification
• Carry out HV pressure testing of cables and vacuum circuit breakers
• Safely confirm HV cables dead using a Cable Spiking Gun
• Perform tests on HV Protection systems
• Practically carry out Earthing of switchgear and cables
• Conduct live HV phasing
• Complete Operating records & documentation
• Operate and maintain HV Switchgear

The course is designed to refresh existing AP’s to HV electrical systems and the dangers which exist and which can arise when operating and working on HV systems. Learners will also be refreshed on the required knowledge to issue safety documentation in compliance with current HSE legislation and to HTM06-03 HV safety rules and procedures

To create a forum for delegates to discuss their own HTM 06 related issues, to allowing delegates to manage these systems safely and economically.

Objectives

Delegates will be able to:

• State the key contents of HTM 06-02 and the reasoning behind the contents
• State the dangers associated with electricity
• State other working documents relevant to HTM 06-02 and the role of the Authorised Person (LV)
• Describe the duties and responsibilities of the Authorised Person (LV)
• Describe typical components and their function within a typical low voltage distribution system
• State the requirements and reasons for the inspection and testing of electrical installations
• State the different types of circuit protective devices used in low voltage distribution systems and compare their characteristics
• Describe the function of a standby power supply and typical maintenance requirements
